60 SECONDS WITH JOSHUA JOHNSON
Why did you decide to join Beghou?
“In my previous role, I was doing a lot of the same technical work but in an internal capacity. The company was not focused on adding new technologies to it’s tech stack and I felt that my skills were getting stagnant. I transitioned to Beghou so that I could continue to hone my skills by working on innovative technologies – I was particularly impressed by the firm’s proprietary platforms, Mainsail™ and ARMADA™.”
What does a typical day look like?
“While no day is the exact same, I spend a lot of my time meeting with clients and then bringing information and questions from these client calls to my team and making sure everyone has a manageable workload. Then, I dive into technical work. This includes data warehouse management, writing codes to refresh assets, making ad hoc changes to reports and more.
I also spend time consulting with clients on data governance. This includes reviewing the data available and thinking through the most strategic approach related to where to warehouse data, master data management, designing reports, enabling alerts, etc.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
“I have three children – ages 10, 7 and 2 years. My wife homeschools our children and Beghou offers me the flexibility to work remotely, so I am able to spend a lot of time with my family. I also enjoy reading, playing basketball and playing chess.”
What is one professional skill you’re currently working on?
“I’m working on building my skills in Python development – particularly the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Open AI has a lot of pre-made tools that could be implemented into Beghou’s tech stack and part of our offering to clients. I see a lot of possibilities with AI and am excited to see how this plays out.”
What skills are most important for someone interested in working at Beghou?
“Beghou is a consulting firm that uses technology as a foundation for commercial strategy. This requires both technical expertise and business acumen. As we continue to grow, there will be a bigger emphasis on the hybridization of these skills. Employees who are able to communicate and strategize with clients and also have high technical aptitude will continue to be extremely valuable. I recommend that people interested in working at Beghou build their expertise in a specific technology and also focus on their business and communication skills.”
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
“Early in my career, a manager told me, ‘Do not wait until you are a leader to start leading.’ This advice has stuck with me throughout my career. I’ve found that there are opportunities to lead, regardless of my position. Whether it’s offering a fresh perspective, leading in planning, or even managing administrative tasks for the team, I consistently seek out ways to make an impact.”
